Header clearance was also an issue with regards to the water pump inlet pipe. A hose fitted to that inlet pipe was very nearly touching the exhaust pipe for cylinder number 1. Dennis believed that a shield of some sort might be ultimately necessary but also decided to take the additional step of cutting, repositioning and then re-welding the inlet pipe.
The redirected water pump inlet pipe now had about 3/4 of an inch clearance from the header.
This task took about an hour.
