Initial Chassis Analysis

The fact that the Zetec powerplant readily bolts up to the existing bellhousing partially simplifies the adaptation process. But there are complications.

The initial complication is that the intake side of the single overhead cam motor is on the left side. The intake side of the Zetec engine, which will replace it, is on the right.

The exhaust side also switches sides: On the right on the single overhead cam motor, on the left for the Zetec engine.

Further, the “A” Brace at the rear of the motor will not clear the wider double overhead cam Zetec. These appeared to be readily surmounted complications. Not so with the surprise complication arising from cylinder head and bellhousing interference.
