New “A” Brace at Rear of Engine Bay

It had been clear from the beginning that the “A” shaped engine bay brace at the rear of the engine would not clear the wider cylinder head and cam cover of the Zetec motor. Several options were discussed but, once again, Dennis believed that the simplest and most easily replicated option would be to widen the top part of the “A”, laterally brace it and then connect it all back to the original mounting points.

Much of the old “A” was used so that the cost of new materials only amounted to about $10.

Using the original mounting points and fasteners avoided the complications and expense of trying to create a new rear bracing system that tied into, say, the shock mounting points.

Fabricating this new “A” brace required 3.5 hours.
